Colby Hegarty to stay local as future Northeastern goalkeeper

Colby Hegarty didn't follow the highest-profile path.

He wasn't a Development Academy player, nor did he go to a prep school with a glowing reputation. Nonetheless, the goalkeeper from Upton, Mass., has a Division 1 soccer career in his future.

Hegarty has committed to Northeastern University, where he'll play for head coach Chris Gbandi, former MAC Hermann Trophy winner while playing at UConn in the late 1980s and early '90s. During the recruiting process, Hegarty also looked at Trinity, Bryant, Merrimack and Brandeis.
