Club check-in: Why it’s been a great year for New England Surf’s U-18/19 boys

When New England Surf boys director of coaching Jake Beverlin says "the club has had a very good year," it seems like an understatement.

The Massachusetts-based club currently has 25 college-committed players combined from its state teams for the Class of 2022. That impressive number is largely comprised of players from the State Blue and Grey teams, which are the club’s first and second sides.

Coaches and directors within the program, like Beverlin, will tell you that success was certainly expected in 2022 for this group of U-18/19 players. But the actual success has exceeded expectations.

The State Grey boys entered the 2021-22 season as the MYSA State Cup champions and USYS national semifinalists, and had a total of 11 players who committed to play college soccer last fall. In addition to that, the State Blue boys started off the season as MYSA State Cup finalists with eight players committed to play college soccer. Those numbers have since increased to combine for 25.
