The field of 48 teams that will compete for the NCAA Division 1 men’s soccer championship was announced on Monday.
Twenty-three conference winners were granted automatic bids, while the remaining 25 teams received at-large selections. The teams were seeded so that 16 of the 48 teams received a first-round bye and automatically advanced to the second round. The first round of the tournament is set to start on Thursday, across multiple locations, while the championship game will be Monday, Dec. 11 (6 p.m.) in Louisville, Ky.
Five New England programs earned spots in the NCAA field. Leading the way is perennial power New Hampshire, which is seeded eighth and will host a second round match on Sunday. The 10th-ranked Wildcats secured an at-large spot with an impressive record of 12-2-4. They are one of three America East teams from the region in the NCAA Tournament.
