Damion Lowe’s fortunes are on the rise after being named captain of Jamaica’s national team and leading IK Start to promotion to the top-flight Eliteserien in Norway.
Lowe, a defender at the University of Hartford from 2011-13, successfully juggled club and international commitments this year. Lowe and Jamaica reached the semifinals of the Gold Cup, and also won Group C in the Nations Cup. Then, Lowe returned to Start for a late-season run in the OBOS-Ligaen that climaxed with a dramatic promotion playoff victory over Lillestrom on Wednesday.
Start lost to Lillestrom, 4-3, in the final game, but advanced on away goals after rallying from a 4-0 deficit with three goals in a six-minute span late in the second half.
