Last week, the annual Upper90 Christmas Tournament was held at Danvers (Mass.) Indoor Sports.
The event, put together by Pingree girls soccer head coach and NEFC North Shore Director Doc Simpson, featured a four-team round robin tournament with teams comprised of mainly women's college players and high school senior girls players who will be moving on to college soccer. There was also one team comprised of NEFC 2008 boys.
The tourney perennially brings together an abundance of great players. Among the standouts last week were North Carolina freshman forward Ally Sentnor (Hanson, Mass.), Brown senior defender/midfielder Kayla Duran (Woburn, Mass.), South Carolina junior forward Cat Barry (Hingham, Mass.), Maryland grad student defender Amanda Schafer (Pembroke, Mass.) and NEFC Class of 2023 standout and Penn State-bound forward Nicollette Kiorpes.
"The goal of this event is to give college girls something to do when home and help prepare players for pro combines," said Simpson.
