The New England Revolution made a major roster move official on Monday.
The Revs have acquired star forward Jozy Altidore via free agency and extended the player’s contract an additional year, through the 2024 season, after Toronto FC exercised the club’s one offseason buyout. Toronto will remain responsible for a portion of Altidore’s salary through 2023.
The 32-year-old Altidore is a household name amongst American soccer fans, and brings star power to New England. He is a two-time U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year with more than 195 career goals and 550 games played for club and country. His decorated career includes participation in two FIFA World Cups, MLS Cup MVP honors, a Dutch Cup title, and more than 200 appearances in European club competition.
