The New England Revolution opened their 2021 MLS season on Saturday evening with a 2-2 draw at Chicago Fire FC, continuing the club’s solid away form under head coach/sporting director Bruce Arena.
That didn’t come without a poor start, though, as Chicago scored twice inside of 11 minutes to take an early lead. Robert Beric, their Slovenian forward and one of three Designated Players, recorded a goal and an assist to cap the sweeping moves.
The Revolution especially struggled on the left-hand side, with winger Tajon Buchanan and left back DeJuan Jones not quite on the same page. Normally, Buchanan would play on the right-hand side like when New England reached the Eastern Conference Final in 2020.
